BiographyPhilip M. Halpern is the managing partner of the law firm of Collier, Halpern, Newberg, Nolletti & Bock, LLP, with offices in New York City, White Plains, New York, Stamford, Connecticut and Roseland, New Jersey. Mr. Halpern is a magna cum laude graduate of Fordham University, where he majored in economics and is a graduate of Pace University School of Law where he obtained his juris doctor. Mr. Halpern is admitted to practice law in the states of New York and Connecticut and regularly appears in the federal and state courts in those jurisdictions as well as nation-wide. He has been certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (website, brochure) as a civil trial advocate. Mr. Halpern recently authored a two-volume book for Thompson Publishing Company on civil procedure entitled, Civil Pretrial Proceedings in New York. He has also authored several articles for the New York State Bar Association and the American Bar Association and has lectured for the Office of Court Administration, New York State Bar Association, Pace University School of Law and a number of Bar Associations on a variety of litigation topics. His articles include "Age Discrimination in Employment: Releases Protect Employers Too!" which was published in The Labor Lawyer, American Bar Association, in 1992; "Fair Value Proceedings: Fixing Fair Value In New York" which was published in the NY Litigator, New York State Bar Association, Commercial and Federal Litigation Section, in 1996; "Court of Appeals Sharply Diminishes the Substantive Due Process Rights of Property Owners in New York" which was published in the NY Litigator, New York State Bar Association, Commercial and Federal Litigation Section, in May 2006; "Unlocking a Valuable Tool: Summary Judgment Hearings on Issues of Fact" in the Westchester Bar Journal in 2006; and "The Contours of Common-Law Dissolution in New York," which was published in the NY Litigator, New York State Bar Association, Commercial and Federal Litigation Section in Spring 2007. Mr. Halpern is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and member of the Office of Court Administration's Advisory Committee on Civil Practice. Mr. Halpern is a member of Pace Law School's Board of Visitors and acts as a mediator in the Southern District of New York. Mr. Halpern has been a member of the advisory council for the board of judges for the Southern District of New York and is a member of the advisory council for the Metropolitan Section of the Professional Golfer's Association. He is a member of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, the Committee on Federal Judiciary for the New York State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association, New York State Trial Lawyers Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Federal Bar Council. Mr. Halpern began his legal career in 1980 as a law clerk to Federal Judge Irving Ben Cooper in the Southern District of New York. Since that time, Mr. Halpern has actively engaged in commercial litigation in state and federal courts and has taken cases to successful verdict in more than a dozen states.
