Biography

White Plains divorce lawyer, James J. Nolletti (J.D., 1978, Fordham Law School), is an accomplished negotiator and litigator with broad experience in matrimonial, family law, personal injury and criminal defense litigation.  A Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, Mr. Nolletti provides clients with the security and peace of mind that result from representation by an experienced New York divorce attorney and an assertive, client-centered team of professionals dedicated to providing prompt, efficient and exceptional legal services.

Having served clients in numerous and notable cases at both the trial and appellate court levels for three decades, Mr. Nolletti has gained broad experience and recognition as a diligent and successful matrimonial attorney.  He has successfully tried to verdict numerous matters (both jury and non-jury), providing counsel and support to clients and their families through an often stressful and emotional court process. Mr. Nolletti has helped many more clients avoid a costly trial by developing and presenting their cases and claims for an effective and prompt pretrial resolution.

Mr. Nolletti began his career as a criminal prosecutor in the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.  In 1981, he joined a Mamaroneck, N.Y. law firm that eventually became known as Sirlin, Sirlin & Nolletti, where he was trial counsel and supervising partner in the areas of matrimonial, personal injury and criminal defense litigation.  He is currently Supervising Partner of the Matrimonial & Family Law Practice at his White Plains law firm, Collier, Halpern, Newberg, Nolletti & Bock, where he directs a team of experienced professionals.

Mr. Nolletti, who has maintained the highest peer review rating for Ethical Standards and Legal Ability by Martindale-Hubbell throughout his career, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Westchester County Bar Association Family Law Section and the Board of Managers of the New York Chapter of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.  Since 2008, Mr. Nolletti has been included in the list of Super Lawyers published in the New York Times, establishing him as one of the top divorce attorneys in Westchester County and the NY Metropolitan area.  He has also been listed in Who’s Who in American Law and appeared as a guest legal commentator on a major cable television news network.

James J. Nolletti  has also lectured on divorce and family law issues and taught in accredited continuing legal education programs for members of the bar and bench.  He authored "Exploring Decisions and Developments that Impact the Practice Today and Tomorrow Inside the Minds" which appeared in the 2010 Edition of Strategies for Family Law in New York, published by Thomson Reuters/Aspatore.  In 2011, Mr. Nolletti was selected to serve on the Board of Editors for the Journal of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.

While he firmly believes that parties should make every reasonable effort to settle their cases, and that a well-prepared and assertive bargaining position facilitates that effort, Mr. Nolletti also believes that at times, litigation is the only alternative.  He notes, however, that litigation should proceed only when the value of unresolvable issues warrants the expense.
